Diego Alejandro Gutierrez Chavez
Coach Diego is from Leon, Guanajuato, Mexico. He has been coaching for about 7 years now in Colorado, Texas, Australia, and currently in Hawai'i. Read below to find out what he loves about coaching!
What made you want to become a coach?
My love for the game and desire to share what I have learned and continue to learn from my football environment and experiences.
What is your favorite part about coaching?
Being able to be around players and people who love the game.
What is one piece of advice you would give to young soccer players?
Play soccer for as long as you can :)
What is your most memorable moment as a coach?
Driving back home to Hilo after the last championship match of the weekend, I couldn't help but think about every moment lived that weekend. It was a moment full of realizations and emotions. I'll leave it at that!
Who was your soccer coach/player role model? Why?
If I had to pick one player today, it would be MESSI. I admire his love for the game, his ability, play style, and everything he has worked hard to accomplish. I do not know the guy but he has inspired me most to play this game throughout my career, time and time again.
What does success look like to you as a coach?
Seeing my players reach their maximum potential.
What do you hope players will take away from playing on your team?
I hope my players will take away all the knowledge and experiences I share and use it to continue their development in order to reach their ultimate goals. I hope I can ignite and fuel their passion for this game.
